Today, these same motifs — peacocks, fish, elephants, lotus blooms, and mythological scenes — are brought to life on silk by artisans who have inherited this art through their families.

How do I care for a hand-painted silk saree?

Hand-painted silk sarees are best dry cleaned to preserve both the silk and the natural dye colours — this is the single most important care step. If you prefer home washing, use cold water with a very mild detergent, handle gently by hand, and never wring or twist the fabric. Always dry flat in the shade away from direct sunlight, and when ironing, use a low setting on the reverse side only — never apply an iron directly to the painted surface.
